The Journey Continues…
In February 2011 a baton was passed. Cornerstone Christian Fellowship went through an exchange zone of sorts. The pastor role "baton" was passed from a much loved, admired and accomplished Pastor, Doug Smith, to Eric Warren (that's me). This type of exchange has been happening since the beginning of the Christian Church 2000 years ago and something Jesus anticipated in Matthew 16:18 "and all the powers of Hell will not conquer it (the Church). (NLT)". It began with one baton handed from Jesus to his disciples. Their 11 batons were passed on to others until today…uncountable exchanges are happening around the world as not just pastors, but all followers of Jesus share, fulfill, and eventually pass their roles on to others whom God has prepared. Thus, for Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, the journey continues past the exchange zone on to the next leg of its race, my journey merging with theirs. If you have a few more moments before surfing the next site or going on to the next item on your to do list, I'll tell you a bit about it.
My wife Amy and I entered ministry in Halifax, N.S. in 1982. Amy is a Sign Language Interpreter most recently working in the Regina public school system. Together, we have shared the journeys of other congregations across the country. We ministered in the Maritimes for 10 years, followed by a five year stint in Alberta, and most recently 13 years in Saskatchewan. Speaking of Saskatchewan, that's actually where I was born. I grew up on a mixed farm near the town of Rouleau which said town, was the setting (dare I say it!) for the acclaimed television series "Corner Gas". (Amazingly, I've only watched three episodes!) Amy is from Eastern Washington State. Her cross-cultural contribution has enriched our family life and she would tell you "Canadianess" has hers. Did I say kids? We have three. Brian is a High School teacher and musician. Shannon is a Registered Nurse working in a hospital E.R. Brittany is an esthetician.
I believe that our coming here is a "God thing" ultimately. One of the things I believe He used to lure us here, is this congregation's heart for community improvement. Since January 2008, they have involved themselves in programs that are improving the lives of people in practical ways here and there in the Mimico/ Lakeshore area and beyond. If you personally have, or you see a need in the community we might be able to help with or pray about, please consider sharing it with us! If you'd like to come and share some worship time with us, we'd like that too!
Our intention at Cornerstone is to continue to: "…run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith." Hebrews 12:1-2 (NLT)
